The Company was incorporated in Malaysia in 1964 and started operations in 1966 as Shanks Malaysia Sdn Bhd, then a subsidiary of Shanks & Company Limited, United Kingdom. With the merger in 1969 of Armitage Ware Limited and Shanks & Company Limited, United Kingdom, Shanks Malaysia Sdn Bhd became Armitage Shanks Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

In 1989 Armitage Shanks Ltd, United Kingdom divested its controlling interests of 53.94% stake to Johnson Industrial Holding AG of Switzerland.  In 1990, Johnson Industrial Holding AG acquired another 30% being all the shares held by CI Holding Berhad in the Company.

In 1997, Sanitec Corporation acquired 50% of Johnson Industrial Holding AG and the remaining 50% was acquired in 1999. Sanitec Corporation is the largest manufacturer of sanitary ware in Europe with more than 18 factories spread throughout Europe, Egypt and Lebanon.

The Company has been marketing its products under the JohnsonSuisse brand in Malaysia since 1990. The response was overwhelming and in 1995, the company stopped using the Armitage Shanks brand. The Company changed its name from Armitage Shanks Sdn. Bhd. to Sanitec Johnson Suisse Sdn. Bhd. in 2001.

In 2002, Sanitec Corporation divested a major portion of their equity interest in Sanitec Holding AG and the Company changed its name to Johnson Suisse Sdn Bhd.

In 2006, the Company was acquired by Spain’s Roca Corporación Empresarial,  S.A. (Roca). Roca is one of the world’s leading companies in the building material industry and the synergy derived from both companies is expected to enhance and strengthen the JohnsonSuisse brand name and its presence locally and internationally.
